Blake Morgan secures overturning of match fixing charge against Darius Knight

"Blake Morgan and Red Lion Chambers represented former England international table tennis player Darius Knight in an appeal to Table Tennis England. The independent Appeals Panel overturned a match fixing charge and five‑year sanction, reduced a sanction for sharing inside information from five to three years, and cut investigation costs payable by Knight by 25%."

Blake Morgan and Red Lion Chambers represented former England international table tennis player Darius Knight in an appeal against disciplinary findings imposed by Table Tennis England. The dispute arose after Table Tennis England’s Disciplinary Committee found Mr Knight, following an unrepresented hearing in March 2025, to have breached its Anti‑Corruption and Disciplinary Regulations and imposed a five‑year sanction for match fixing. After instructing Blake Morgan’s Sports Law team, Mr Knight appealed the Committee’s findings. Following an eight‑month review, the independent Appeals Panel of Table Tennis England overturned the match fixing charge, finding that the Committee’s factual findings, described by the Panel as “sparse”, were not sufficient to support a conclusion that Mr Knight had been party to match fixing. The Appeals Panel also reduced a separate sanction for the charge of sharing inside information for betting purposes — a charge Mr Knight has consistently denied — lowering that sanction from five years to three years. Mr Knight did not appeal other findings relating to betting on table tennis or to an alleged failure to provide reasonable assistance to the TTE investigation. As part of the successful appeals, the Panel reduced the portion of investigation costs payable by Mr Knight by 25 per cent. Blake Morgan represented Darius Knight with a team composed by: Dov Katz, Head of Sport and Partner; Hannah Clipston, Litigation & Dispute Resolution Partner. Red Lion Chambers represented Darius Knight with a team composed by: Max Baines, Barrister.
