The Third Chamber of the Provincial Court of Seville acquitted the ten officials, concluding there was no evidence to support the crimes alleged against them, including influence peddling, prevarication, embezzlement and fraud. The court found that the charges lacked probative value and expressly recognised the professionalism and impartiality of the technicians and civil servants involved in the public tender for the mining concession, rejecting any suggestion of influence or collusion in the administrative process. The ruling brings to an end proceedings that lasted several years and included an oral hearing conducted over 36 sessions. The Court emphasised the absence of evidence to infer irregularities in the conduct of the members of the Contracting Committee and the Technical Commission, and noted the consistency of the expert reports that supported the correctness of the procedure followed.
