Life Finland Administration of Bankruptcy Estate and Store Liquidation

Castrén & Snellman represented the bankruptcy estate of Life Finland Oy and assisted the appointed estate administrator, counsel Elina Pesonen. Life Finland Oy, a retailer of natural products and cosmetics, filed for bankruptcy on its own initiative in June 2025 following the declaration of bankruptcy of its parent company, Life Europe AB, in Sweden the same month. At the time of the filing Life Finland operated more than 30 stores and employed nearly 170 people across Finland, and it held a range of leased premises including retail, office and warehouse space. The bankruptcy estate organised and executed clearance sales in all operational stores. In close cooperation with the company’s country manager, regional managers and sales staff the shutdown of stores and the clearance sales were efficiently completed in approximately two weeks. The sales produced a significant liquidation result, with consumers purchasing almost the entire inventory. The administration of the estate required expertise across several specialised areas. The proceedings addressed matters including cash pooling arrangements, intellectual property, franchising agreements, employment relationships and consumer creditors. The case was also notably international: the estate administrator coordinated the shutdown of operations and asset liquidation with the estate administrators of the Swedish Group companies, including exploring opportunities for the sale of the business, the sale of intangible rights and the coordination of intra‑group agreements.
