Hogan Lovells Advises EIB and African Development Bank on $275 Million Financing to Modernize Mauritania Railway

"Hogan Lovells and Mauritanian firm AvaConseil advised the European Investment Bank and the African Development Bank on a $275 million financing to Société Nationale Industrielle et Minière (SNIM) to modernize Mauritania's main rail corridor. The AfDB committed $150m and the EIB $125m to renovate track, add 42 km to connect El Aouj and Atomai, and procure rolling stock and maintenance equipment. D'Alverny Avocats advised SNIM."

Hogan Lovells and Mauritanian firm AvaConseil advised the European Investment Bank (EIB) and the African Development Bank (AfDB), while D'Alverny Avocats advised the Société Nationale Industrielle et Minière (SNIM). The transaction concerns a $275 million financing package provided to SNIM to support the modernization of Mauritania's principal rail corridor. The AfDB committed $150 million and the EIB $125 million to the project. The rail line connects the iron ore mines at Zouerat in the north‑east of the country with the Atlantic port of Nouadhibou. The financing will enable SNIM to renovate the existing track and construct 42 kilometres of additional track to link the future mining sites at El Aouj and Atomai. The funds will also be used for the acquisition of new locomotives, wagons and maintenance equipment to upgrade operations on the corridor.
