Freshfields advises Smiths Group on £2bn sale of Smiths Detection to CVC Capital Partners

Freshfields advised Smiths Group plc on the proposed sale of its Smiths Detection division to CVC Capital Partners. The transaction envisages the sale of Smiths Detection to CVC Capital Partners at an enterprise value of £2bn. Smiths Group plc, a FTSE100 global engineering business, is focused on creating sustainable solutions across sectors including energy, security and industrial technology. The proposed disposal of Smiths Detection represents a significant milestone as Smiths Group continues to concentrate on its core, high-performance industrial businesses. Completion of the transaction is anticipated in the second half of 2026 and remains subject to consultation processes and regulatory clearances.
