King & Spalding advises on Abu Dhabi energy acquisition and decarbonisation agreements

King & Spalding advised Abu Dhabi National Energy Company PJSC (TAQA) and Dubal Holding on the acquisition of Emirates Global Aluminium’s (EGA) Al Taweelah power plant, and supported Emirates Water and Electricity Company (EWEC) on a series of decarbonisation and renewable energy agreements with EGA. The transaction consists of TAQA’s and Dubal Holding’s acquisition of EGA’s Al Taweelah 3.1 GW combined-cycle gas-fired plant for USD 1.9 billion (approximately AED 7 billion). Separately, King & Spalding supported EWEC on a set of agreements concerning the decarbonisation of EGA’s aluminium production and the expansion of renewable and clean energy development in Abu Dhabi. Those agreements were signed earlier this week and are expected to close shortly. King & Spalding represented Abu Dhabi National Energy Company PJSC (TAQA) and Dubal Holding with a team composed by: Brendan Hundt (lead), Simon Cowled, Jesse Pauker, Mohammed Basama, Jill Cooper, Chris Travis, Suzanne Szczetnikowicz, Caio Gabra, Sam Anastasiou, Olivia Wynne Thomas, Sam Muir and Saiesh Kamath. King & Spalding represented Emirates Water and Electricity Company (EWEC) with a team composed by: Dan Feldman (global head of energy; lead), Gregor Page, and additional King & Spalding team members including Simon Cowled, Jesse Pauker, Mohammed Basama, Jill Cooper, Chris Travis, Suzanne Szczetnikowicz, Caio Gabra, Sam Anastasiou, Olivia Wynne Thomas, Sam Muir and Saiesh Kamath.
