Ashurst advises Sojitz on investment in Next Green Group to expand behind-the-meter energy solutions

"Ashurst advised Sojitz Corporation on its investment in Next Green Group Pty Ltd. The transaction supports Sojitz’s plan to build an integrated energy solutions business in Australia and accelerate behind-the-meter services such as rooftop solar and battery storage for commercial and industrial customers."

Ashurst advised Sojitz Corporation on its investment in Next Green Group Pty Ltd. Australia has the highest per capita energy consumption in the Asia‑Pacific region and elevated electricity prices driven by grid charges, creating strong demand for energy‑saving services. Behind‑the‑meter (BTM) systems, which include integrated rooftop solar and battery storage, are increasingly used to reduce energy expenditure by commercial and industrial consumers. Next Green Group (NGG) is an energy retail business that supplies electricity to small and medium sized businesses and provides installation of solar power systems and storage batteries at commercial and industrial sites. With its investment, Sojitz intends to build an integrated energy solutions business and work together with NGG to accelerate the expansion of BTM services across Australia. Ashurst represented Sojitz Corporation with a team composed by: partners Jo En Low, Natsuko Ogawa and Alexander Dmitrenko; senior associates Alex McLeish and Rachel Werner; associates Janet Chhean and Shenaye Ralphs (Corporate Transactions); partner James Clarke; senior associate Dario Aloe; associate Caitlin Terrey (Dispute Resolution); partners Mike Webb and Kate Phillips; senior associates Robert Gough and Stephen Blair; associates Jayfer Joy and Irene Ma (Projects & Energy Transition); partner Angie Ng; associate Danny Xie (Competition); partner Jenine Mansfield; senior associate Mohamad Ardati; associate Erina Higgins (Employment); partner Nina Fitzgerald; associate Rebel O'Connor (IP); partner Geoff McGrath; associate Eshaan Kapur (Digital Economy Transactions); partner Kitty Vo; senior associate Matthew Loader (Real Estate); and partner Scott Charaneka; associate Vien Siu (Finance, Funds & Restructuring).
