Stibbe advises Van Eerd family on full acquisition of HEMA

"Stibbe advised Mississippi Ventures, the Van Eerd family’s investment vehicle (owners of supermarket chain Jumbo), on acquiring the remaining 50% of HEMA from investor Parcom, giving the family full ownership. The transaction is subject to approval by the Dutch competition authority (ACM) and HEMA’s works council advice."

Stibbe advised Mississippi Ventures, the investment vehicle of the Van Eerd family (owners of supermarket chain Jumbo), in the acquisition of the remaining 50% of the shares in HEMA from investment firm Parcom. Mississippi Ventures and Parcom had jointly acquired HEMA in 2021, each holding an equal 50% stake. Under the transaction, Mississippi Ventures will acquire Parcom’s 50% stake, resulting in HEMA becoming wholly owned by the Van Eerd family. HEMA is an iconic Dutch retail chain with more than 17,000 employees and a broad range of everyday products. Over recent years the business has seen growth in turnover, volume, profit and customer satisfaction. The acquisition is intended to enable further investment in the HEMA brand and customer experience, supporting the company’s ongoing growth and appeal. Jumbo and HEMA will continue to operate as separate businesses while being able to benefit from mutual reinforcement. The transaction remains subject to approval by the Dutch Authority for Consumers and Markets (ACM) and to the advice of HEMA’s works council. Stibbe represented Mississippi Ventures / the Van Eerd family with a team composed by: Egbert Vroom, Céline Groen, Nathan van Rooijen, Levi Wisse, Paul Vestering, Alexander Collot d'Escury, Stijn de Jong, Charlotte Oskam, IJsbrand van Straten, Natalja van Hofwegen, Annemijn van der Vegte.
