CMS Sofia Advises UniCredit Bulbank and Eurobank Bulgaria on EUR 74 Million Financing for Battery Energy Storage Project

CMS Sofia acted as lead legal advisor to UniCredit Bulbank (as Bookrunner and Coordinator) and Eurobank Bulgaria in connection with the project financing. The transaction concerns an approximately EUR 74 million project financing for the construction and operation of a new battery energy storage system (BESS) in Bulgaria. The facility will have a capacity of 360 MWh and will be located near the city of Cherven Bryag. The financing is intended to enable the development and operation of the project and represents a significant step in the expansion of Bulgaria’s renewable energy infrastructure and in the transition to a more sustainable energy mix. CMS Sofia, acting as lead legal advisor to UniCredit Bulbank and Eurobank Bulgaria, provided comprehensive legal support across all stages of the transaction, including initial due diligence, structuring, the negotiation of financing documentation and signing, ensuring a smooth and efficient process for all parties involved. The bank roles included UniCredit Bulbank acting as Bookrunner and Coordinator. CMS Sofia represented UniCredit Bulbank and Eurobank Bulgaria with a team composed by: Antonia Kehayova, Desislava Anastasova, Anna Philcheva, Dimitar Zwiatkow, Konstantin Altandzhiyski and Ivan Gergov. UniCredit Bulbank's in-house legal team represented UniCredit Bulbank (Bookrunner and Coordinator) with a team led by Dimitar Shalamanov and Ivanina Petrova from Project & Structured Finance, together with Yordanka Pavlova and Mariya Kostadinova from Corporate Coverage (lending side). Eurobank Bulgaria's in-house legal team represented Eurobank Bulgaria with a team led by Milen Ditsov and Krum Ivanov from the Project & Structured Finance Department.
