Travers Smith advises Fairfax Financial Holdings on acquisition of MW Eat

Travers Smith LLP advised Fairfax Financial Holdings on its acquisition of MW Eat and its subsidiaries, Masala Zone and The India Collection. The transaction concerns the acquisition of MW Eat, one of the world’s leading restaurant groups for Indian cuisine. MW Eat’s portfolio includes three fine dining restaurants — Amaya, Chutney Mary and Veeraswamy — together with Masala Zone, a well‑known chain of informal dining restaurants. Fairfax Financial Holdings, a Toronto‑based Canadian financial holding company and parent of Recipe Unlimited Corporation (Canada’s largest full‑service restaurant company with over 1,100 restaurants across Canada and internationally), will work closely with MW Eat’s founders Ranjit Mathrani, Namita Panjabi and Camellia Panjabi to ensure a seamless handover. Fairfax and Recipe Unlimited plan to make significant investments in the group with a view to introducing MW Eat’s dining concepts to an international audience.
