Gothaer and Barmenia Merge with Employment Law Advice from Seitz

The commercial law firm Seitz advised Gothaer and Barmenia on employment law issues related to their merger. The merger of Gothaer and Barmenia represents a groundbreaking transaction in the insurance sector: it is cited as the first merger of two insurance companies and one of the most complex merger projects of 2023 and 2024. The combined group, Barmenia.Gothaer, will rank among the ten largest insurance companies in Germany and will employ approximately 7,500 people. Following the successful transaction, Seitz will continue to provide strategic and operational employment and labor law advice on the post-merger integration. Particular focus will be placed on developing the future group structure and managing the transformation process. Seitz represented Gothaer and Barmenia with a team composed by: led by partners Dr. Stefan Seitz, Dr. Johannes Traut, Annika Hausmann and Dr. Stephan Pötters; and team members Dr. Timo Pulat, Lena Thau, Niklas von Ancken, Susanne Wegehaupt and Jens Neldner. The team advised on employment and labor law matters, including compliance issues and IT co-determination, and will support the post-merger integration and transformation workstreams.
