Taylor Wessing Advises Balderton Capital on €180 Million Series C Extension for AI Drone Manufacturer Quantum Systems

"Taylor Wessing advised Balderton Capital on its €180m Series C extension investment in AI drone maker Quantum Systems, which brings its 2025 funding to €340m and values the company above €3bn, making it Europe’s first dual-use unicorn. The funds will support AI, software and hardware development, strategic acquisitions and expanded mass-production in Germany and Europe."

Taylor Wessing acted as legal adviser to Balderton Capital on the €180 million Series C extension investment in Quantum Systems. Quantum Systems, a leading provider of AI-powered aerial surveillance systems headquartered in Gilching near Munich, has raised €180 million in a Series C extension led by Balderton Capital. This follows the company’s €160 million Series C in May and brings the total amount raised in 2025 to €340 million. The transaction values Quantum Systems at over €3 billion, represents the largest private capital raise in Europe’s dual-use sector and establishes the company as Europe’s first dual-use unicorn. Quantum Systems employs just under 1,000 people and manufactures reconnaissance and surveillance drones for military and civilian use. The company will apply the new capital to expand development of AI, software and hardware for intelligent unmanned systems across all domains, pursue strategic acquisitions and scale mass-production capabilities in Germany and Europe to meet rising demand. Balderton Capital, the London-based venture capital fund that led the round, focuses on supporting European founders from seed to IPO. Since its founding in 2000, Balderton has raised twelve funds totalling more than $5.7 billion and invested in more than 275 companies. Taylor Wessing represented Balderton Capital with a team composed by: Lead counsel Dr Norman Röchert (Partner, Berlin); Dr Anna Hankings-Evans (Senior Associate, Berlin); Felix Paul (Professional Support Lawyer, Berlin); Jasmin Bechtold (Associate, Berlin); and Johannes Philipp Tapken (Associate, Munich), all Corporate/Growth VC.
