Watson Farley & Williams advised a pool of French lenders — Société Générale, Bpifrance, Arkéa Banque Entreprises et Institutionnels and Caisse d'Épargne CEPAC — on a €70 million financing to support Elyse Energy. The financing will fund the development of two of Elyse Energy's most advanced strategic projects. eM-Rhône is dedicated to the production of e-methanol for maritime transport and industry, to be located on the Les Roches-Roussillon chemical platform in Isère. BioTJet is focused on the production of sustainable aviation fuels in the Lacq basin in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques and is being developed in partnership with Axens, IFP Énergies Nouvelles and the Avril group. The financing benefits from support provided by Bpifrance Assurance Export, acting on behalf of, for the account of and under the control of the State, under the Guarantee of Strategic Projects (GPS). Founded in 2020, Elyse Energy designs, develops, finances, constructs and operates production units for sustainable fuels derived from renewable and nuclear electricity and recycled carbon from industry or biomass. Watson Farley & Williams represented the lenders (Société Générale, Bpifrance, Arkéa Banque Entreprises et Institutionnels and Caisse d'Épargne CEPAC) with a team composed by: Laurence Martinez-Bellet, partner, finance; Julie Michelangeli, senior associate; Simon Allain, associate; Olivier Charron, associate. Laurent Battoue, partner, public and regulatory law, assisted by Antoine Bois Minot, counsel, with collaborators Amandine Collard, Léo Van Den Bussche, Catherine Masquelet and Marie Jannet on the audit and project aspects. Thomas Rabain, partner, assisted by Lucile Mazoué, associate, on corporate matters.
