Freeths advises founders and LDC on sale of Shaken Udder to Spain’s leading chocolate business Idilia

Freeths advised the selling founders of premium milkshake brand Shaken Udder and private equity investor LDC on the sale of the business to Idilia, the leading chocolate company in Spain. The transaction concerns the acquisition of Shaken Udder, a premium milkshake brand founded in Essex in 2004 by Jodie and Andrew Howie. The founders began by selling milkshakes made with fresh milk and real ingredients at major festivals before launching into retail in 2008 and securing distribution with national supermarkets including Waitrose, Sainsbury’s, Tesco, Co-op and Asda. LDC made a minority investment in Shaken Udder in 2021 to support customer growth, channel expansion and product development. During the four-year partnership with LDC, the company increased retailer distribution points by 14,500 (an 80% increase), expanded into the convenience channel with ambient products, launched an award-winning protein milkshake line, grew revenue by 91%, increased headcount by 66% and outperformed the market with a 23.5% compound annual growth rate. Under Idilia’s ownership, Shaken Udder will operate as an independent business unit and will retain 100% of its current team.
