Watson Farley & Williams advised a consortium of French banks — Société Générale, Bpifrance, Arkéa Banque Entreprises et Institutionnels and Caisse d’Epargne CEPAC — in relation to a €70 million financing facility granted to Elyse Energy to develop two strategic sustainable fuel projects. The financing will support Elyse Energy’s two most advanced projects. The first, eM‑Rhône, is located on the Roches‑Roussillon chemical platform in the Isère department and is dedicated to producing e‑methanol for the maritime sector. The second project, BioTJet, is being developed in the Lacq basin in the Pyrénées‑Atlantiques department and is dedicated to producing sustainable aviation fuels in partnership with Axens, IFP Energies Nouvelles and the Avril group. The financing is supported by Bpifrance Assurance Export (a subsidiary of Bpifrance) acting in the name, on behalf of and under the control of the French State, under a Garantie des Projets Stratégiques (GPS). Founded in 2020, Elyse Energy designs, develops, finances, builds and operates sustainable fuel production units using renewable and nuclear electricity and recycled carbon from industry or biomass. Watson Farley & Williams represented the lenders (Société Générale, Bpifrance, Arkéa Banque Entreprises et Institutionnels and Caisse d’Epargne CEPAC) with a team composed by: Finance Partner Laurence Martinez‑Bellet (Finance); Senior Associate Julie Michelangeli (Finance); Associates Simon Allain and Olivier Charron (Finance); Regulatory and Public Law Partner Laurent Battoue (Regulatory and Public Law); Counsel Antoine Bois Minot (Regulatory and Public Law); Associates Amandine Collard, Léo Van Den Bussche, Catherine Masquelet and Marie Jannet (Regulatory and Public Law); and Corporate Partner Thomas Rabain and Associate Lucile Mazoué (Corporate).
