Watson Farley & Williams Advises Nexrail on Purchase and Financing of Up to 200 EURO9000 Panto‑Battery Hybrid Locomotives

Watson Farley & Williams advised Nexrail on the purchase agreement with Stadler Rail AG and on the green loan financing for the acquisition of the locomotives. The transaction covers Nexrail’s order of up to 200 EURO9000 panto‑battery hybrid locomotives from Stadler Rail AG. The EURO9000b combines pantograph power with high‑performance battery power to offer a mainline locomotive capable of zero‑emission transport from terminal to terminal. First deliveries are scheduled for 2029, with Hamburger Rail Service GmbH & Co. KG designated as the launching customer. To fund the acquisition, Nexrail raised a new €204 million green capex facility specifically to finance the locomotives and simultaneously amended and extended its existing €322 million bank facilities. Nexrail, headquartered in Luxembourg, is a leading European locomotive leasing company focused on supporting the transition of rail freight to zero‑emission traction. It is owned by funds managed by InfraVia Capital Partners. Stadler is a Swiss provider of mobility solutions in rail vehicle construction, service and signalling technology.
