Macfarlanes Advises Staples Vegetables on Strategic Partnership with Solum Partners

"Macfarlanes advised Staples Vegetables on a strategic partnership with agribusiness investor Solum Partners to expand Staples’ produce operations and its renewable-energy division. The energy division uses anaerobic digestion to convert crop residuals and food waste into renewable natural gas (RNG) and electricity to power operations and supply external offtake."

Macfarlanes advised leading UK food and renewable-energy producer Staples Vegetables in connection with its strategic partnership with global agribusiness investment firm Solum Partners. The partnership will support Staples Vegetables in expanding both its produce operation and its energy division, which uses anaerobic digestion to convert crop residuals and food-waste by-products into renewable natural gas (RNG) and electricity. Staples recently completed an expansion of its energy operations to enable full-scale RNG production, which powers its own operations with clean energy, reduces emissions and generates a surplus for external offtake. Solum Partners’ investment is intended to strengthen supply reliability, accelerate adoption of technology, further enhance product quality and advance sustainability efforts across the value chain. Macfarlanes represented Staples Vegetables with a team composed by: Corporate Partners Harry Coghill and Greg James; Senior Counsel Lauren Bretton; Senior Associate Jonathan Hock; and Associate Abdi Buwe. Tax advice was provided by Partner Joe Robinson; Senior Associate Ellen Wildig; and Associate Krishant Sen.
