Slaughter and May advises Centrica on participation in Highview Power £130 million funding round

"Slaughter and May advised Centrica plc on its participation in Highview Power’s latest £130 million funding round alongside the Scottish National Investment Bank, Goldman Sachs, KIRKBI and Mosaic Capital. The financing will fund the first phase of the Hunterston ‘stability island’ to provide system support to the UK electricity grid."

Slaughter and May advised Centrica plc on its participation in Highview Power’s latest £130 million funding round. The funding round, which included Centrica alongside the Scottish National Investment Bank (SNIB), Goldman Sachs, KIRKBI and Mosaic Capital, will finance construction of the first phase of the Hunterston project. That phase comprises a “stability island” designed to provide system support to the electricity grid. The stability island is a core component of Highview’s long-duration energy storage (LDES) system. It can operate independently of the energy storage elements and will deliver critical inertia, short-circuit and voltage support at a location that faces considerable stability challenges. By bolstering stability at Hunterston, the asset will enable greater transmission of power from generation points in Scotland to areas of high demand and help prevent curtailment of Scottish wind energy. This investment follows Centrica’s earlier investment in Highview Power in June 2024. Slaughter and May represented Centrica plc with a team composed by: Oliver Moir (Partner, Energy and Infrastructure); Natalie Cook (Partner, Corporate); Eleanor Mackay (Senior Counsel, Corporate); Alissa Veiga-Pestana (Associate, Corporate); Azadeh Nassiri (Partner, Financing); Adrian Barrus (Senior Counsel, Financing); Philippa Howell (Associate, Financing).
