Freshfields advised FTSE 100 client SSE plc (SSE) on its equity raise. The transaction comprised a successful equity placing to institutional investors, conducted concurrently with a retail offer and a director subscription, raising total gross proceeds of approximately £2bn. The proceeds will be used as part of the overall funding of SSE’s transformational £33bn five‑year investment plan to 2029/30, positioning the company as one of the fastest-growing electricity networks in the world and more than trebling the size of its regulated asset base.
