Luther Advises Mediengruppe Oberfranken Shareholders on Sale to Mediengruppe Bayern

Luther Rechtsanwaltsgesellschaft mbH advised the shareholders of Mediengruppe Oberfranken on the sale of all shares to Mediengruppe Bayern. The transaction transfers ownership of Mediengruppe Oberfranken (MGO) to Mediengruppe Bayern, creating the largest regional newspaper publisher in Bavaria. MGO's daily titles, including Fränkischer Tag, Bayerische Rundschau, Coburger Tageblatt and Saale‑Zeitung, together with the high‑reach online portal infranken.de, as well as MGO's trade journal and printing operations, will be fully integrated into Mediengruppe Bayern. Mediengruppe Bayern itself comprises a number of regional titles and is expanding its regional publishing footprint. The sale follows a decision by MGO's 17 shareholders, representing four founding families, to consolidate in response to increasing economic challenges in the regional media market and thereby secure the long‑term stability and competitiveness of traditional regional media brands. The transaction remains subject to antitrust approval; the parties have agreed not to disclose the purchase price.
