Georgescu Gont represented former Finance Minister and Slatina Mayor Darius Valcov before Romania’s High Court of Cassation and Justice. Valcov had been handed a six-year aggregate sentence in 2023 for multiple offenses. His defence argued that the limitation period for the influence peddling offence had already expired at the time of conviction. The ICCJ upheld that argument, resulting in the annulment and removal of the three-year component from the total sentence.
