CMS represented client Statera Energy on the construction contracts for the Carrington Storage battery energy storage system (BESS). The transaction concerns the 680MW/1360MWh Carrington Storage BESS, which reached financial close last week. The project, located at the Trafford Low Carbon Energy Park in Greater Manchester, is intended to enhance flexibility and resilience across the UK electricity system. The facility will have the capacity to deliver instantaneous power to 2.2 million homes for up to two hours. Construction began in autumn 2025 and energisation is targeted for late 2026. CMS has previously advised Statera Energy on construction contracts for the Thurrock combined BESS (300MW) and flexible gas generation (450MW) project. The firm says its role on Carrington further emphasises its market-leading energy storage practice; CMS was named Law Firm of the Year at the Energy Storage Awards 2024 and Legal Adviser of the Year at the Energy Storage Investment Awards in 2024 and 2025. CMS represented client Statera Energy with a team composed by: Phil Duffield, Energy & Climate Change Partner; Oliver Ratnatunga, Energy & Infrastructure; Hanna Rannikmae, Energy & Infrastructure; Kate Merrill, Energy & Infrastructure; Maja Kajdasz, Energy & Infrastructure; Veral Chandiramani, Energy & Infrastructure.
