Burges Salmon advises CNG Fuels on £25m financing to accelerate decarbonisation of UK transport

"Burges Salmon advised CNG Fuels Ltd on a £25 million five‑year debt facility provided by The Foresight Group to expand Bio‑CNG refuelling infrastructure in the UK. CNG Fuels, part‑owned by ReFuels N.V., will use the funding to build high‑capacity stations and mobile refuelling units to boost HGV decarbonisation."

Burges Salmon advised CNG Fuels Ltd in securing a five‑year £25 million debt facility from The Foresight Group, working alongside CNG Fuels’ in‑house legal team and part‑owner ReFuels N.V. The transaction comprises a £25 million five‑year debt facility provided by The Foresight Group to CNG Fuels Ltd, Europe’s largest supplier of 100% renewable biomethane to the transport industry. The financing, together with operational cash flow, will fund construction of three new high‑capacity Bio‑CNG refuelling stations and support CNG Fuels’ strategy to double its UK dispensing capacity by the end of 2028. CNG Fuels, which is part‑owned by Oslo‑listed ReFuels N.V., plans to deliver at least nine high‑capacity stations over the next three years, supplemented by additional Mobile Refuelling Units, increasing total network capacity to serve more than 20,000 HGVs by 2028. Sites in Magor (South Wales) and Swindon (South‑West England) have been confirmed, raising daily network capacity to over 12,500 HGVs. This financing follows Burges Salmon’s earlier work supporting CNG Fuels’ transition into a fully integrated clean fuel infrastructure platform. Burges Salmon represented CNG Fuels Ltd with a team composed by: Stuart McMillan (Partner, lead), Emily Cranston (Associate), Emer O’Connell (Solicitor), trainees Lui Henderson, Freya Whittaker and Will Starkey, and legal apprentice Cuba Kamanu. CNG Fuels in‑house legal team represented CNG Fuels Ltd with a team composed by: Alanna Flett, General Counsel.
