Linklaters advises Cathay Pacific on proposed off-market share buy-back from Qatar Airways Group Q.C.S.C.

"Linklaters is advising Cathay Pacific Airways Limited on a proposed off-market share buy-back of 643,076,181 shares (approximately 9.57% of issued capital) from Qatar Airways Group Q.C.S.C., for about HK$6.97bn (US$896.5m). The transaction is subject to independent shareholder approval."

Linklaters advised Cathay Pacific Airways Limited on its proposed off-market share buy-back from Qatar Airways Group Q.C.S.C. The proposed transaction would see Cathay Pacific purchase 643,076,181 shares from Qatar Airways Group Q.C.S.C., representing approximately 9.57% of Cathay Pacific's total issued share capital. The total consideration for the buy-back is approximately HK$6.97 billion (US$896.5 million). The proposed transaction is subject to independent shareholder approval. Cathay Pacific is described as a leading premium travel lifestyle brand based in the Hong Kong SAR. Passenger flights are provided by Cathay Pacific, the home carrier of Hong Kong and a founding member of the oneworld global alliance. Linklaters represented Cathay Pacific Airways Limited with a team composed by: corporate partner Roger Cheng, solicitor Inez Wong and associate Zoe Cheung. Roger Cheng commented that the matter involved complex and inter-related issues under the Hong Kong Listing Rules, the Takeovers Code and the Share Buy-back Code, and expressed gratitude for the trust Cathay Pacific placed in the firm.
