HFW Advises CWS on €12 Million Fundraising to Industrialise Wind Propulsion Wings for Large Vessels

HFW advised Computed Wing Sails (CWS), its founders and management on the €12 million fundraising. The transaction raises €12 million from Supernova Invest, Bpifrance’s Maritime Decarbonization Fund and the SPI Fund to accelerate CWS’s production capabilities and consolidate its technological leadership in the decarbonisation of maritime transport. The funds are intended to support the industrialisation of CWS’s automated rigid wind-propulsion wings for large vessels. Founded in 2019 and based in Montoir-de-Bretagne, CWS designs and manufactures automated rigid wings for ship propulsion. Its patented technology, inspired by aeronautics and based on a biomimetic approach, enables optimal use of wind energy and contributes to the decarbonisation of maritime transport. Following this fundraising, the founders, including Julien Morel, inventor of the Airfin technology, retain a majority stake. The transaction structure comprises €6 million in equity and €6 million in convertible bonds.
