Addleshaw Goddard represented the Mémorial de la Shoah in criminal proceedings against four Bulgarian nationals accused of applying red handprints to the Wall of the Righteous. The acts at issue occurred in May 2024, when red handprints were placed on the Wall of the Righteous and several hundred identical tags were drawn in Paris's 4th and 5th arrondissements. Against a backdrop of suspicions of foreign interference, the case was heard before the Paris criminal court on 29, 30 and 31 October. The public prosecutor sought custodial sentences ranging from two to four years. On 31 October 2025 the Paris criminal court delivered firm convictions. The four Bulgarian nationals were sentenced to prison terms of two to four years and were subject to a definitive ban from French territory. The court held that the damage had been committed because the victims belonged to a particular religion, thereby recognising the antisemitic character of the offences. As part of its pro bono commitment, Addleshaw Goddard regularly assists victims of acts that attack memory and republican values.
