"Dentons Advises Montreal Port Authority on Major Contrecœur Expansion Project"

"Dentons, Canada’s Global Law Firm, is advising the Montreal Port Authority (MPA) on the Contrecœur expansion project, which aims to develop a new container terminal at the Port of Montreal by 2030. The terminal will handle 1.15 million TEUs annually, strengthen supply chains, and create approximately 8,000 jobs. Key milestones include a Joint Development Agreement with DP World and a CA$609 million contract awarded to the CTCGP consortium for in-water works starting in 2026. Dentons has provided comprehensive legal support throughout the project, leveraging its expertise in infrastructure and PPP projects."

Dentons, Canada’s Global Law Firm, acted as the principal legal advisor to the Montreal Port Authority (MPA) in connection with the Port of Montreal expansion project in Contrecœur. The project involved collaboration with DP World in Canada, a joint venture between Dubai-based DP World and La Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec, as well as the CTCGP consortium formed by Pomerleau and Aecon. The transaction includes the development of an advanced container terminal capable of handling 1.15 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) annually by 2030. On September 8, 2025, the MPA and DP World in Canada entered into a Joint Development Agreement for the land-based works of the terminal expansion. Subsequently, on October 9, 2025, the MPA awarded a CA$609 million contract for in-water works to the CTCGP consortium, which will oversee the design and construction of docks and necessary dredging, with work commencing in 2026 upon obtaining required authorizations.
