DLA Piper Advises on Landmark 100MW Battery Energy Storage Project in Finland

"DLA Piper has successfully advised Fotowatio Renewable Ventures (FRV) on the financial close of the SIMO 100MW/200MWh battery energy storage project in Finland, developed in collaboration with AMPTank Energy Oy. The project, which is one of the largest of its kind in Finland, consists of two phases, with the first phase already operational and the second phase set to be completed by August 2026. The financing includes a term loan arranged by Kommunalkredit Austria AG. DLA Piper's team, led by Finance partner Rubayet Choudhury, emphasized the project's innovative revenue model and its significance for FRV's leadership in the energy storage sector."

DLA Piper has advised Fotowatio Renewable Ventures (FRV) on the financial close of the SIMO 100MW/200MWh 2-hour Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project in Finland, developed in partnership with AMPTank Energy Oy. The transaction involves a term loan with Kommunalkredit Austria AG acting as the sole arranger and lender. The SIMO project, which is set to be one of the largest BESS projects in Finland, is divided into two phases: Phase 1 (30MW/60MWh) is already operational in the wholesale market, while Phase 2 (70MW/140MWh) is currently under construction, with commissioning scheduled for August 2026. The DLA Piper team was led by Finance partner Rubayet Choudhury, supported by partners Nikhil Markanday and Antti Niemi, legal directors Mark Valenzia, Jacques Camilleri, and Marta Clemente, senior associate Ruth Conolly, and associates Panu Punkari, Cormac O'Brien, and Salesh Premjith.
