"Eversheds Sutherland's rail team has successfully assisted the Department for Transport (DfT) in transferring Greater Anglia rail services into public ownership, marking the third transition under the Government's Public Ownership Transfer Programme. This transfer, which took place on October 12, 2025, means that half of the train operators under DfT's responsibility are now publicly owned. The transition aligns with the Government's Plan for Change, aimed at creating a more efficient and accountable railway system. The transaction, which officially took place at 02:00am on Sunday, 12 October 2025, marks the third transition under the Government’s Public Ownership Transfer Programme. This transfer signifies that half of the train operators under the DfT's responsibility are now publicly owned, aligning with the Government’s Plan for Change aimed at creating a more accountable, efficient, and reliable railway system.
