A&O Shearman Advises Revolut on French Banking Licence

A&O Shearman advised Revolut Bank S.A. in connection with the grant of its banking licence in France. A&O Shearman advised Revolut Bank S.A. on the full range of regulatory and legal matters arising from the application for a French banking licence, including analysis of the applicable regulatory frameworks, the structuring of its banking activities in France and management of the authorisation procedure before the Autorité de contrôle prudentiel et de résolution (ACPR) and the European Central Bank (ECB). The final decision was adopted by the ECB Governing Council. The licence marks a major step in Revolut’s expansion across Western Europe. The group will progressively roll out its banking services in the region beginning in France and subsequently extending to other key markets including Germany, Ireland, Italy, Portugal and Spain. Revolut has also announced its intention to invest more than €1 billion in the region, create over 600 jobs and establish its West Europe headquarters in Paris by 2027.
