August Debouzy assists Albert Camus heirs in transfer of major heritage archive to the French State

August Debouzy represented Mr Jean Camus and the heirs of Albert Camus in the transfer to the French State of an exceptional archive collection. The transaction concerned the transmission to the French State of a carefully preserved ensemble of archives dating back to 1960, composed notably of manuscripts of major works and a valuable correspondence. Motivated by a desire to ensure the permanent preservation and full valorisation of this literary heritage, the heirs of Albert Camus sought to place the collection durably within the public domain. The collection has been recognised by the Ministry of Culture as a work of major heritage interest. This qualification confirms its national significance and secures its long-term conservation and dissemination to researchers, cultural institutions and the general public, in France and internationally. The operation relied on close coordination of August Debouzy’s expertise in intellectual property and art law — central to the file — together with public law and tax law.
