AG Advokat Advises VA SYD on Nya Sjölunda Wastewater Treatment Project

AG Advokat represented VA SYD in connection with Project Nya Sjölunda. Project Nya Sjölunda in Malmö is one of Sweden's largest and most legally complex water and wastewater infrastructure undertakings. The project involves the phased replacement of almost all components of the existing Sjölunda wastewater treatment plant and forms a central part of VA SYD's long‑term MAXIMA investment programme. The turnkey contract awarded to the Skanska‑Vinci consortium covers both design and construction of all plant elements, including the full process section of the new treatment facility. The assignment also includes construction of new outfall pipelines extending approximately four kilometres into the Öresund, a requirement that places significant demands on legal structuring, allocation of responsibilities and coordination among multiple parties. The cost of the Nya Sjölunda project is estimated at approximately SEK 6.5 billion, while the total investment under the MAXIMA programme is estimated at roughly SEK 17.5 billion. AG Advokat assisted in preparing the contractual documentation for project implementation. The assignment was primarily carried out by Håkan Bjerle and Kasper Johansson.
