ArentFox Schiff Adds Four to Food, Drug, Medical Device & Cosmetic Practice to Strengthen Alcohol Beverage Regulatory Capabilities

Partner Nichole D. Shustack, Counsel Michael Rudy, Senior Associate Isabelle R. Cunningham, and Director Helen C. Plunkett have joined ArentFox Schiff as members of its Food, Drug, Medical Device & Cosmetic Practice, where they will focus on the alcohol beverage industry.

Nichole D. Shustack joins ArentFox Schiff in Washington, DC as a Partner. She brings nearly a decade of in‑house experience at the Boston Beer Company and counsels public and private companies on day‑to‑day operations and growth strategies, including federal and state regulatory compliance, trade practices, commercial agreements, distribution matters, and coordination of recalls. Nichole also represents brands marketing ancillary or cross‑category products, including hemp and cannabis products and retailer operations technologies. She joins ArentFox Schiff from Nutter, McClennen & Fish, LLP, where she led the Alcohol group and co‑led the Food and Beverage Group. Nichole is recognized in Chambers USA 2025.

Michael Rudy joins the firm in Boston as Counsel. He has over 20 years of experience providing legal and business guidance within the alcohol beverage industry, including corporate governance, multi‑jurisdictional compliance, litigation management, distribution strategies, and merger and acquisition activity. Mike draws on his in‑house counsel background to advise clients on trade practice compliance and commercial growth strategies.

Isabelle R. Cunningham joins in New York as a Senior Associate, focusing on alcohol and food and beverage regulatory matters with particular emphasis on new and innovative products. She is well‑versed in Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB), Federal Trade Commission (FTC), and Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations and serves as regulatory counsel to manufacturers, wholesalers, and retailers. Before private practice, Isabelle served as in‑house counsel at a multi‑billion‑dollar beverage company, advising senior leadership on compliance with alcohol franchise, contract, and trade practice laws and negotiating contracts across business functions. Isabelle joins ArentFox Schiff from Nutter, McClennen & Fish, LLP and is recognized in Chambers USA 2025.

Helen C. Plunkett joins ArentFox Schiff in Washington, DC as Director of Alcohol Regulatory & Corporate Administration. She manages end‑to‑end regulatory, governance, and compliance support for alcohol beverage clients and corporate organizations, overseeing the lifecycle of state and federal alcohol licenses, permits, brand registrations, and ongoing reporting obligations. Helen also provides integrated corporate governance and compliance support, including board and committee administration, equity management, and SEC reporting. Having worked in‑house and in corporate law, she brings operational insight to regulatory and corporate matters. Helen joins the firm from Nutter, McClennen & Fish, LLP.
