Akerman Names Healthcare Partner Jeremy Burnette Pro Bono Counsel

In this newly formalized role, Burnette will support the firm’s Pro Bono Initiative by assisting with pro bono staffing and maintaining an active pro bono docket while continuing his healthcare practice. He brings more than 20 years of experience focused on complex litigation and healthcare compliance. His healthcare practice includes representation of providers in False Claims Act litigation and government investigations, state licensure board proceedings, payor audit and recoupment actions, medical staff matters, practice dissolutions, commercial disputes, and regulatory compliance; he has also served as outside counsel to providers’ internal compliance committees. Burnette has led large-scale, collaborative pro bono projects, coordinating teams on multistate initiatives, contributing to comprehensive policy frameworks with national civil rights organizations, and representing nonprofits and low-income individuals. His commitment to pro bono service has been recognized internally and nationally, including as a Top 10 Finalist for Chambers USA Pro Bono Lawyer of the Year in 2023 and 2024, recipient of Akerman’s Pro Bono Impact Award, inclusion in Best Lawyers in America for Healthcare Law (2022–2026), and selection to the GaBiz Top Lawyers list (2025–2026).
