CMS appoints Carl Newman as partner in Corporate Crime practice

Carl brings 25 years of experience representing clients in high‑profile and complex criminal investigations and prosecutions, as well as in compliance and regulatory matters. He specialises in financial crime and misconduct, acting for both regulated entities and individuals, and has managed proceedings and investigations involving the Financial Conduct Authority, the Prudential Regulation Authority, the Serious Fraud Office, HM Revenue & Customs and the National Crime Agency. He joins CMS as a partner; at his previous firm he was a partner and Head of White Collar Defence and Investigations. Carl is recognised in Chambers & Partners and Legal 500 and is listed as a ‘Leading Lawyer’ by Spears 500.
His appointment follows two earlier senior hires to the CMS Corporate Crime team: Kitty St Aubyn (Of Counsel, London) and Sally Clark (Of Counsel, Edinburgh). Supported by a global team of over 400 lawyers, the CMS UK Corporate Crime team advises corporates and individuals across multiple jurisdictions on financial crime and other criminal and regulatory risks, including competition, cyber, environmental, and health and safety matters.
