Simmons & Simmons appoints Stefan Nerinckx to head Brussels employment practice

"Simmons & Simmons appoints Stefan Nerinckx to lead its Brussels employment practice; he and his team will work in employment law, covering employment, social security and immigration matters."

Stefan Nerinckx joins Simmons & Simmons as a partner to head its Brussels employment law department, accompanied by supervising associate Antoine Grégoire and associate Jeroen Verbeken.

The appointment brings the total number of partners in Belgium to nine and reflects the Brussels office’s ambition to strengthen its position in a highly competitive market. Globally, Simmons & Simmons’ employment practice has continued to grow with three partners added in the Hong Kong, London and Dublin offices over the past 12 months, bringing the team to 28 partners. The practice was also recently recognised as one of the world’s leading employment law practices by International Employment Lawyer.

Stefan Nerinckx joins Simmons & Simmons as a partner and advises companies, senior executives and board members on complex and strategic matters relating to employment law, social security and immigration as they pertain to human resources. His work covers international mobility, employment contracts, dismissals, international employment, non-competition clauses, privacy protection at work, employee status and flexibility at work. He is experienced in negotiating remuneration packages and fringe benefits, conducting social audits and managing social inspections. Stefan also advises on HR aspects of mergers and acquisitions and supports companies through collective redundancies, restructurings, business transfers, collective disputes, strikes and lock-outs.

Stefan is a visiting professor at the Collège Universitaire de Bruxelles (Odisee/KUL), co-editor of a Kluwer legal journal and a frequent speaker at employment law conferences. His expertise is recognised in leading legal guides: he is ranked as a leading individual by Chambers, included in the Legal 500 EMEA Hall of Fame for employment law in Belgium, received the Corporate Counsel Client Choice Award (Lexology) in 2021 and 2022, and was named the most influential Belgian lawyer in labour law by Business Today in 2023. He is fluent in English, French and Dutch.

He joins the firm alongside his team: supervising associate Antoine Grégoire and associate Jeroen Verbeken, who become members of Simmons & Simmons in the stated roles.
