Tiago Sousa Freitas has joined Spear Legal as a partner. He joins the boutique firm, which focuses on tax law and tax litigation, from Pares.

Sousa Freitas, originally from Madeira, has built his career in tax litigation. He will work in Spear Legal’s tax litigation practice as a partner. Throughout his career he has represented companies, investors and private clients on complex tax matters, handling proceedings before the Portuguese Tax Authority, national courts and the Court of Justice of the European Union. He previously worked at Deloitte Legal and at Leite de Campos, Soutelinho & Associados, and most recently came from Pares. His sector experience includes beverages, healthcare, automotive, real estate, information technology, civil explosives, financial services and private equity funds.

He holds a postgraduate degree in Taxation from Universidade Católica Portuguesa and completed an Executive Program in International Tax Law for Brazil, Portugal & Angola at Leiden University. He obtained his undergraduate and master’s degrees in Law from the Faculty of Law of the University of Coimbra.
