MFA Legal & Tech launches indirect tax practice with hire of Rita Simão Luís

"MFA Legal & Tech appoints Rita Simão Luís as counsel to launch an indirect tax practice focused on VAT, customs and special consumption taxes, covering Portugal and Lusophone Africa."

Rita Simão Luís has joined MFA Legal & Tech as counsel and will co-lead the firm’s newly created indirect tax practice alongside Bárbara Miragaia.

The new practice will focus on VAT, Customs Law and Special Consumption Taxes, aimed at reinforcing the firm’s capacity to handle complex tax matters and cross-border transactions with particular attention to Portugal and Lusophone Africa.

Rita Simão Luís has built her career in tax advisory and tax litigation, concentrating on indirect taxation, including VAT, excise duties and customs law in Portugal and Lusophone Africa. She has advised national and international groups in the financial, real estate, pharmaceutical, telecommunications and energy sectors on M&A transactions and infrastructure projects. She joins MFA Legal & Tech as counsel.

Before joining MFA Legal & Tech, Simão Luís worked at the law firms Vieira de Almeida and Allen & Overy, and served as Deputy and acting Chief of Staff to the Secretary of State for Tax Affairs. She holds an LL.M. in Taxation from Universidade Católica Portuguesa and contributes regularly to IBFD.
