Álvaro Fernández joins Gómez-Acebo & Pombo as tax counsel

Fernández Domínguez joins Gómez-Acebo & Pombo as counsel from Freshfields, where he spent the past nine years and most recently held the position of senior associate. He previously worked at Garrigues, also specialising in tax.
He advises on Spanish and international tax matters, with experience spanning corporate tax advice, corporate governance and complex transactions, as well as administrative and judicial tax litigation. At Freshfields, his recent work included advising the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPPIB) on the tax aspects of its €1bn acquisition of a 25% stake in FCC Medio Ambiente, and advising on withholding tax refund proceedings before the Spanish courts involving dividends received by non-resident investors.
