Berger Montague Welcomes Tyler Planeta as Senior Counsel in Toronto Office

Mr. Planeta’s practice centers on complex class action litigation, with a particular focus on securities and competition matters. He has appeared before all levels of court in Ontario and British Columbia and before the Supreme Court of Canada. Since 2025 he has been recognized in Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch in Canada in the field of Class Action Litigation. His work representing investors in securities class actions has resulted in settlements exceeding $130 million, and his broader practice has included human rights, institutional abuse, and product liability litigation. He also represented Canadian consumer groups in two landmark Supreme Court of Canada decisions.
Before joining Berger Montague, Mr. Planeta was a partner in a prominent class actions practice. He also worked for a litigation funding firm in Dublin, Ireland, where he helped manage complex securities and competition claims in Europe and Asia.
Mr. Planeta is a graduate of the Queen’s University Faculty of Law and the University of Waterloo and is a member of the Law Society of Ontario, the Law Society of British Columbia, and the Advocates’ Society.
