Altaïr Avocats appoints Philippe Berteaux to lead new restructuring department

"Altaïr Avocats welcomes partner Philippe Berteaux to head its new restructuring and distressed companies practice, focusing on restructuring, insolvency and high‑balance litigation."

Philippe Berteaux joins Altaïr Avocats as a partner to lead the firm’s newly created restructuring and distressed companies department. He is accompanied in this move by Mathilde Lavenu, who joins as collaborator, and Sonia Afonso, who joins as paralegal.

Philippe Berteaux brings more than thirty years of experience in restructuring and insolvency. Recognized for his expertise in collective procedures, his practice includes appearances before commercial courts and handling high‑balance litigation. He will head Altaïr Avocats’ restructuring practice, which he conceives around prevention, restructuring and the acquisition of distressed companies, thereby strengthening the firm’s corporate offering. A graduate of Université Panthéon‑Assas (Paris II) and a lawyer since 1993, Berteaux began his career at Borloo & Associés, then worked at Lantourne & Associés where he helped develop the distressed companies department. He founded his own structure in 2007, joined Marvell Avocats in 2012 as partner responsible for the Restructuring department, and co‑founded WB Legal in 2022. His practice covers support to executives before and after difficulties, refinancing operations, creditor negotiations, amicable and collective proceedings before commercial courts, and advising international companies and investors on acquisitions of distressed businesses, including court‑supervised takeovers; he also uses his bilingual English practice to protect the interests of foreign funds and industrial investors. Berteaux is a member of the Association pour le Retournement des Entreprises (ARE) since 2010.

Mathilde Lavenu joins Altaïr Avocats as a collaborator and Sonia Afonso as a paralegal; they accompany Philippe Berteaux in this new phase of the firm’s development.
