Ecija strengthens Peru practice with integration of Vidal & Cía. and key hires
"Ecija expands in Peru by integrating Vidal & Cía. and hiring Michael Vidal (labour), Gabriela Saavedra (tax) and Eduardo Linares (compliance and gaming), reinforcing labour, tax, compliance, gaming, corporate and TMT practices."
Michael Vidal joins Ecija as partner together with his team following the integration of Vidal & Cía. Vidal is a specialist in labour law with more than 25 years of experience in Labour and Labour Procedural Law, covering consultancy, litigation, collective bargaining and labour dispute management. He previously held leadership roles at Estudio Echecopar, EY and Hernández & Cía. before founding Vidal & Cía., and has served as a university professor and as president of the Instituto Peruano del Derecho del Trabajo y la Seguridad Social. The labour practice has also been reinforced internally with the promotion of Martha Girón to partner and Alexandra Ortiz to director.
Gabriela Saavedra has joined Ecija as director of tax, arriving with her team from Muñiz, Olaya, Meléndez, Castro, Ono & Herrera Abogados, where she was a partner in the Tax area. Saavedra has more than 15 years of experience advising clients across various economic sectors. Her practice covers tax consultancy, fiscal planning, corporate reorganisations, SUNAT audits, contentious and non-contentious proceedings, tax due diligence and litigation before the Tribunal Fiscal and the judiciary. She holds a law degree from Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos and has undertaken specialised studies in international taxation, transfer pricing and digital taxation.
Eduardo Linares joins Ecija as director of compliance and gaming, arriving from Ontier together with a member of his team. His hire strengthens the firm’s capabilities in regulatory compliance, data protection, risk management and advisory for the gaming sector. In addition, three further associates have joined Ecija’s labour, corporate and TMT teams.
Eduardo Benavides, managing partner of Ecija Peru, said the combination of external hires and internal promotions reflects a strategy to build a firm capable of accompanying clients across their business challenges and represents a long-term commitment to the Peruvian market. The moves form part of Ecija’s expansion in Peru, where the firm now counts 10 partners and 28 lawyers. Ecija operates in 18 countries with more than 1,400 professionals, advising domestic and international companies with a focus on the digital economy, technology and artificial intelligence matters.
