Fergan joins Dorsey’s Patent practice as a partner. Drawing on his experience as Division Chief Intellectual Property Counsel at a medical device manufacturer, he helps clients maximize the value of their patents, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets. His in-house role equipped him to manage global intellectual property portfolios and to oversee IP strategy, litigation, procurement, acquisition, and risk management. He also advises on AI product integration, AI use policies, open-source compliance, and commercial agreements supporting product development and licensing.
Prior to his in-house role, Fergan practiced at a leading intellectual property boutique firm, representing clients in industries including semiconductors, robotics, artificial intelligence, imaging, and medical devices. He is admitted in the State of Michigan and before the United States Patent and Trademark Office and is applying for Illinois admission. He received his J.D. from Wayne State University Law School and his B.S.E.E. from Kettering University.
