Hanson Bridgett Names Martin Metz Chief Technology and Innovation Officer

Metz brings three decades of law firm technology experience and will lead the firm’s IT strategy, infrastructure, digital systems and AI initiatives. He joins Hanson Bridgett from eSentio Technologies, where he served as chief innovation officer advising large firms on document management, enterprise search and knowledge management systems, leading generative AI strategy discussions, and performing technology assessments and interim CIO engagements.
Before eSentio, Metz was chief information officer at Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman for a decade. At Pillsbury he was one of two senior leaders chosen to build and launch the firm’s operations center in Nashville, where he rehired 140 firmwide staff positions and oversaw approximately 100 technology, marketing technology and knowledge management professionals across more than 20 offices. He wrote the firm’s first strategic technology plan and led the firm’s transition to cloud platforms.
Earlier in his career, as director of information technology at O’Melveny & Myers, Metz directed 115 technology and 30 practice support staff across fourteen offices and maintained the department through the 2008 financial crisis. He built one of the first major law firm intranets, founded SV Technology, Inc., developed the LawPort intranet platform still in use, and established one of the industry’s early eDiscovery companies.
Metz has been recognized by The American Lawyer as IT Director of the Year and by the Nashville Business Journal as CIO of the Year. He holds a B.S. in business and management from the University of Maryland and completed the Leadership Certification Program at Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management.
