At Cremades & Calvo-Sotelo, Cadena will work alongside former Attorney General Juan Ortiz Úrculo and the firm’s criminal law team, advising on complex criminal litigation, corporate compliance and white-collar crime matters.
Cadena joins the firm following his retirement in February 2026 as Chief Prosecutor of the Criminal Division of the Supreme Court Prosecutor’s Office, bringing more than 40 years of experience within the Spanish Public Prosecutor’s Office. He began his prosecutorial career in 1979, joined the Supreme Court Prosecutor’s Office in 2007, was promoted to Supreme Court Prosecutor in 2015 and became head of the Criminal Division in 2021. He is best known for his role in the 2019 procés trial as part of the prosecution team before the Spanish Supreme Court and more recently for opposing the application of Spain’s Amnesty Law to certain offences linked to the Catalan independence process.
