Ropes & Gray Hires Paris Partners Edouard Chapellier and Jonathan Abensour to Strengthen European Private Funds and Tax Practice

They have joined the firm alongside a team of eight associates, strengthening Ropes & Gray’s European private funds and tax capabilities. The Paris office, launched in March 2025, now numbers 23 lawyers, including five partners.
Edouard Chapellier joins Ropes & Gray as a partner and is recognised as one of France’s preeminent practitioners in both funds and tax. He advises corporates, private equity firms and investment banks on domestic and international tax matters and on all aspects of fund formation. On the funds side his expertise includes fund formation, secondaries transactions, continuation funds and GP stakes. On the transactional side he structures complex cross-border corporate, banking and capital markets transactions, including leveraged buyouts, joint ventures, and infrastructure and real estate acquisitions.
Jonathan Abensour joins Ropes & Gray as a partner and has extensive experience advising on the tax aspects of M&A and private equity transactions, including transaction structuring, as well as on the full spectrum of fund formation matters for private equity and other fund clients. Together, their appointments expand the firm’s capabilities across fundraising, transactional and tax matters for asset managers, investors and corporate clients.
