Ropes & Gray Adds Maya Song to Data, Privacy & Cybersecurity Practice as Partner

Song is a nationally recognized leader in cybersecurity, data privacy, and government enforcement. She joins Ropes & Gray as a partner after serving as First Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Eastern District of Virginia, where she oversaw approximately 300 federal prosecutors, litigators, and staff and led the office’s response to high‑profile national security and white‑collar matters. Earlier in that office she served as a cybercrime prosecutor and led its cybercrime unit, and she spent 12 years as a federal prosecutor in that demanding district.
Prior to and alongside her U.S. Attorney’s Office service, Song served as Senior Counsel to the U.S. Deputy Attorney General, advising Justice Department leadership on cybersecurity, cryptocurrency, and AI matters and helping to formulate DOJ guidance, strategy, and policy, including work related to cybersecurity disclosure rules. She represented the Department of Justice in National Security Council and Cyber Safety Review Board meetings and has spoken at White House and think tank cyber symposia.
Earlier in her career Song was a litigation attorney at two AmLaw 100 firms and clerked for the Honorable Carl E. Stewart on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. She holds a J.D. from the University of Chicago Law School and a B.F.A. with honors from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts.
