Sidley Strengthens Global Finance in New York with Partners Brian Foster and Patrick Calves

Brian Foster’s cross-border practice focuses on complex financings, including fund finance, derivatives and structured products. His experience spans equity- and fund-linked derivatives and a wide range of fund financing arrangements, including secondaries financings, NAV facilities, portfolio back leverage transactions, subscription lines, margin loans, preferred share issuances, management fee lines and collateralized fund obligations. Earlier in his career, Mr. Foster worked in the Global Fund Derivatives group at Deutsche Bank and at Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc. in connection with the unwinding of its derivatives book. He previously served as the Co-Head of the Fund Finance practice at Hogan Lovells Cadwalader. Mr. Foster is ranked in Chambers USA and Chambers Global for Capital Markets: Structured Products and has been repeatedly recognized by Legal 500 as a leading lawyer in derivatives and structured products.
Patrick Calves represents clients on a broad range of bilateral and syndicated financing structures, including NAV facilities, subscription and hybrid facilities, margin loans, and prime brokerage and other trading and financing arrangements, with particular experience in asset-based financings to private equity and private credit funds, funds of funds, family offices and registered investment companies. He also counsels financial institutions and buy-side market participants on securities and derivatives regulatory matters, including swap regulation under Title VII of the Dodd-Frank Act, and on the structuring and documentation of complex derivatives transactions. Mr. Calves joins Sidley as a partner from Hogan Lovells Cadwalader and has been recognized as a Rising Star by IFLR1000.
