Justin Johnson Returns to Manatt as Privacy and Data Security Partner in Orange County

Johnson brings nearly two decades of experience in data privacy, consumer protection, regulatory compliance and complex commercial litigation. He joins Manatt as a partner after most recently serving as deputy general counsel of a privately owned company operating prominent consumer-facing subscription websites in the people search, social media and identity protection verticals; his prior seniority was deputy general counsel. Earlier in his career he was a litigation associate in Manatt’s Los Angeles office, then served as general counsel at a boutique real estate finance company and co-founded a digital health startup.
At Manatt, Johnson will work closely with the firm’s privacy and data security team and other professionals to represent and advise clients in high-stakes litigation and on complex regulatory and compliance matters. He will help clients develop compliance programs and navigate regulatory inquiries and investigations arising from evolving state comprehensive privacy laws such as the California Consumer Privacy Act and related data broker registration and deletion requirements, and will advise and defend consumer-facing businesses on consumer protection and regulatory matters, including automatic renewal laws, advertising and marketing practices, pricing disclosures, website compliance, unfair competition risks and complex class action litigation.
