Jones Day Welcomes Tax Controversy Lawyer Thomas Ickeringill in Melbourne
"Jones Day has appointed Thomas Ickeringill as of counsel in its Melbourne Tax Practice, where he will work on tax controversy matters including international tax and transfer pricing."
Mr. Ickeringill brings nearly 15 years of professional tax experience across Australia and the United Kingdom. His practice is focused on tax controversy, including international tax, transfer pricing, Mutual Assistance Procedures and integrity measures. He joins Jones Day as of counsel, having most recently served as a Tax Controversy Partner at EY in Melbourne, where he conducted large-scale tax disputes including audits, litigation preparation and settlements.
At Jones Day he becomes part of the firm’s global Tax Practice, which offers the full spectrum of tax disciplines including front-end tax advice, tax counselling and tax controversy and litigation, and complements the firm’s internationally recognised tax litigators.
Mr. Ickeringill is active in the international tax community: he chairs the organising committee for The Tax Institute’s International Masterclass, is a member of the International Fiscal Association Australian Executive Committee, has served as the Australian branch reporter for two prior Congresses and sits on the organising committee for the 2026 Melbourne Congress. He holds an MSc in Taxation with Distinction from the University of Oxford, where he graduated top of his cohort, and a BCom/LLB (Hons) from the University of Melbourne with First Class Honours.
